Owen J. Furuseth, Ph.D., is Associate Provost for Metropolitan Studies and Extended Academic Programs and a Professor of Geography at UNC Charlotte. A Fulbright Senior Research Scholar, his research focuses on community planning, particularly rural to urban community change, neighborhood-level social and economic restructuring, and the social construction of “places” by planning and economic development interests. Dr. Furuseth is the primary author of the City of Charlotte’s Neighborhood Quality of Life studies used to identify and track fragile and threatened neighborhoods, as well as a co-author of Latinos in the New South: Transformations of Place (2006, with Heather Smith).
